Parts of the Body
Today we will be focusing on the different parts of the body. To many of you this may seem like a waste of time. But these words have many different uses. Let’s say you just sprained your wrist and have to visit a doctor to make sure it’s nothing serious. Of course you could explain your situation in English because most Filipinos will understand. But you don’t want to be that foreigner who constantly has to have everything explained in English.
So anyway let’s start learning the Tagalog words for parts of the body. Of course we will be coving all the major body parts starting from your head and ending at your toes. But before we begin I would like to tell you that body in Tagalog is Katawan.
When you first see someone the first part of the body you will notice is their head. In Tagalog it is Ulo. Next you will probably begin to notice some other facial features. Such as their hair which is Buhok and next you will probably notice their eyes which is Mata in Tagalog.
Of course people have other facial features such as a nose, mouth, checks and ears which are Ilong, Bibig, Pisngi and Tenga respectively.
From the head we move down the body to the neck which is just Leeg. Near your neck are your shoulders which are called Balikaat and a little big lower you have your chest which is called Dibdib. And even lower we can find your stomach which is called Tyan or Tiyan and in the middle of your stomach we can find your bellybutton which is called Pusod in Tagalog.
At the moment this lesson is started to feel a little drawn out and repetitive. For the rest I will just be grouping each body part together.
Next are all of the different parts of the body on the arm which are called
Braso – Arm
Siko – Elbow
Pulso - Wrist
Kamay – Hand
Daliri – Fingers
Now we move onto your legs which are
Hita - Leg
Tuhod – Knees
Binti or bukungbukong – Ankle
Paa – Feet
Lastly the final two parts of your body which are difficult to group are your butt and back which are Puwet and Likod.
And of course I didn’t forget the largest body part which is called Balat or skin in English.
